It is believed that the St. Nicholas parish record of the 1635 christening of Alexander, son of Thomas Gordon and Margaret Milne, refers to 'our' Alexander.
-------------------------------------------------------
'The Mither Kirk' of Aberdeen has a long history - at least going back to 1157! St Nicholas was the benefactor of children, the patron saint of sailors, and the protector of the poor. A fine heritage for we modern Gordons to remember!
-------------------------------------------------------
One of the Gordons interred inside the kirk are Lady Elizabeth Gordon d.1438, laid to rest before the alter inside St Mary's chapel, which was originally built as a mortuary chapel for the Gordons. The last of her line, she married Alexander Seton, on the condition that he and his heirs would bear the name Gordon.
Also here, and in the kirkyard: Robert Gordon, b 1655 founder of Robert Gordon College. Sir John Gordon the "Cock O' The North", beheaded in front of his lover, Mary Queen of Scots in 1562. Dean George Gordon Jr, b 1693. Alexander Gordon, Mayor of Aberdeen, d. 1692.

A brilliant booklet about the 'Mither Kirk' may be obtained
from the Aberdeen City Council.
